About the Owners
Gina and Allen moved to Nashville in 2016, when Allen retired from the United States Navy as a Commander after a very successful 25 year career. We married in 1990 and have two adult children, Isaac and Cara. Throughout his Navy career Allen took every opportunity to play drums. Through all his military duty stations he would be the drummer for the squadron band, or the ship’s band, and at every church we attended. He was the first drummer for seven churches. At his last duty station, Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland, he auditioned for a local cover band and got the gig! It was his first Navy job that didn’t have any collateral duties and had minimal travel. So it was the perfect opportunity to be able to do what he loved. Our daughter, Cara, made a stick bag for him to use. He loved what she created and how easy it was to use and carry all of his sticks. Cara and Gina have made several other stick bags to allow for a larger variety of sticks for the different size venues he plays here in Nashville.
The stick bag was the conversation starter for SnareSkirt!
After a local sound engineer saw the latest stick bag that I had made for Allen, we met in the alley between the Ryman and Legends and she told me she had been looking for something to hang from the bottom of the snare drum to block the high frequencies. She had used bar towels over the years but wasn’t successful at finding a consistent and professional solution. She saw the way I had designed the stick bag to hang from the floor tom, and asked if something similar could be made to hang from the front of the snare drum and attach to the lugs at the bottom. She thought it would be a much better way to help her fix the frequency problem with the snare. After researching fabric, bungees, and many trips to fabric stores and home improvement stores, I made several different prototypes. Through several iterations and adjustments, the final product is……SnareSkirt. It has been patented and trademarked. (U.S. Patent No. 11,004,431) Gina and Allen are the full owners of SnareSkirt since January of 2021. God has been in the details of our personal story and in the details of SnareSkirt. We lost our son on September 17, 2023 and we will honor his life with every step we take! He was a special young man and he will be missed for the rest of our time on earth.
You can hear the SnareSkirt difference and hear that it’s “a Sound Solution ®” at several clubs on Broadway in Nashville, TN, used by many drummers and sound engineers. You can see Allen and SnareSkirt ® as he plays weekly with Piper Bateman, and on the road with Travis LeDoyt, an Elvis Tribute Artist, and Danielle Peck. It has been used at The Ryman, Nissan Stadium, The Grand Ole Opry, The Schermerhorn, Ascend Amphitheater and on many, many stages across the United States!
